Boulevard Mafia (Cartel): frequently asked questions
What if the vote is tied?
There is a second vote between the leaders only. If it is a tie again, nobody leaves.
What if the Mafia cannot agree at night?
If the Mafia has not agreed within 30 seconds, there is no shot.
What if two attacks hit one target?
There is one elimination. Each protection absorbs one attack, so two independent attacks on one target need two protections.
What does the Putana block?
The personal night action of the chosen player. Blocking the Doctor cancels the healing, the Commissioner the check, the Maniac his attack, the Journalist the comparison. The Putana does not protect from an attack and gives no daytime alibi.
How does the Maniac win?
The Maniac wins when, after all actions are resolved, the Maniac and at most one other living player remain. The Maniac's win is checked first.
Are the roles of eliminated players revealed?
By default yes. In the "closed city" variant the roles stay hidden until the end of the game. Eliminated players stay silent and give no signals.
What does a player eliminated overnight do?
A player eliminated overnight still performs the accepted, unblocked action of that night.
How many players are needed?
There are decks for 8 to 30 players, and with a deck approved by hand you can play with more. For 20 or more players a second assistant host is recommended. Details are on the decks page.
What age is the game for?
The main mode, Cartel Party, is for 16+/18+ at the club's discretion. The family mode, Cartel Family, is for 8+.
Are these official rules?
No. This is Fortuna's own edition, not an official federation ruleset.
