For teens and parents

Mafia for teenagers aged 12 and over in Dublin: how Fortuna Elite Club teen evenings work, what parents need to know and how we keep children safe.

We welcome teenagers from the age of 12. Mafia suits this age well: it teaches you to listen, to explain your thinking and to stay calm when someone pushes back.

What the game teaches

At the table a teenager practises speaking: in one minute you must say convincingly what you think and why. They also learn to notice details, to count and to take a loss calmly. Bluffing in the game is a game skill, like a clever move in chess, not a reason to take offence. We explain that difference before the first game.

How we play with teenagers

  • The rules are the same as for adults, but the language is gentler: instead of "killed" we say "out of the game".
  • No insults and no pressure on players. The host stops the game if the conversation turns hurtful.
  • Before the first game the host explains everything and answers questions.

We are preparing evenings for teenagers. Dates have not been announced yet: follow the calendar and our group on Telegram.

What parents need to know

  • A teenager comes with the consent of a parent or guardian.
  • The parent or guardian is responsible for their child at the evening and stays on site.
  • We publish photos and video of children only with a parent's consent. More in the photo and video policy.
  • If anything worries you, tell an organiser at once or write to info@fortunacommunity.ie.

Child safety

No adult on our team is alone with a child who is not their own. We take any concern about a child's safety seriously and pass it to the relevant authorities, as the Children First Act 2015 requires. We are preparing a full child safeguarding statement and will publish it on the page Child safeguarding.
