False sheriff: building a version
Why this matters. A false sheriff is a black player who publicly claims the role of sheriff and offers alternative checks.
What to do. Put together a consistent timeline: whom you supposedly checked, why exactly them, and which earlier speeches support the choice. Think through the full trio of mafia in your version and the questions the red players may ask. Do not offer a random set of checks.
How it sounds. "I am the sheriff; on the first night I checked seven as red, on the second I checked three as black. That explains why I supported seven yesterday."
Practice. One participant plays the false sheriff, and three ask questions about the timeline.
Typical mistakes. Inventing checks that do not fit your own actions.
